Another Saturday Night

A filthy rivulet of debris-filled water ran along the length of the dank alleyway. Tall buildings blocked out most of the light from the dual suns which left a double layer of shadows. The gang markings that were sprayed randomly on the walls were difficult to see in the middle of the day. It stank of rotting vegetation and human waste. Rabbit did not want to know what he was standing in. He spotted the door they were searching for and headed off in that direction.

"I'm at the rear exit with Agnes. On your call, Derain," Anton whispered into the short-range comm. He threw a quick nod to Agnes as he slid to one side of the door and her to the other. Together, they both drew their weapons and waited. Derain's voice could barely be made out as it echoed down the alley. But the rhythmic pounding of a person running full tilt into the back door was quite audible.

The door slammed open and ricocheted off the wall. The man who bolted through went flying as he tripped over Agnes' foot that she had shoved in the way. Anton leapt on top of the runner as he struggled to get up. He trapped both wrists and locked the restraining bracelets in place. A woman flew out through the open door and bounced off him as she darted off to the left. The low thunk from the genorg's rifle melted into the sudden scream of the woman as she fell to the street in a tangle of legs and trash.

"You got her, Agnes?"

She nodded as he brought the skip up to his knees, "You shouldn't run, my friend."

"You've got the wrong guy! I didn't do nothing!"

"Yeah, you and your crew haven't robbed any local businesses in the past month and a half," Derain wisecracked as he sauntered through the back door. He was quickly followed by the other genorgs with the other culprits in tow.

Anton piped in, "I bet he's never met any of these people. Isn't that right?"

"Yeah, that's it! I don't know any of them."

Carla replied in a deadpan voice, "We are not judges. We only capture those who have a warrant."

Anton smirked, "Are you developing a sense of humor, Carla?"

Derain chuckled under his breath, "I think she just might be. Let's get these people to the station. No need to keep mazuma wasting in the street."

They walked out of the alleyway and headed off down to the station. Strangely enough, it was less than a couple of blocks away. Rabbit hung back and kept an eye out as the team moved past him.

A smile ghosted on his face. They worked pretty well together. It didn't hurt that they looked like a force to be reckoned with. This was their third tag-n-bag and it had gone off like clockwork. Anton was a little surprised by this, but he had to agree with Derain. This bounty hunting stuff was a decent fit for someone with his skill set.
